Sleeper Escort mkIII

There are two flavours of sleeper - those that look completely factory-standard and hide big, surprising power, and those that look unassuming to the untrained eye, but pique the interest of those in the know. This mkIII Escort estate, spotted recently by SuckSqueezeBangBlow at the Faversham Classic Car Show, belongs to the latter category. To most folk, it's just an old estate car in the same shade of bronzey-gold as your grandma's Escort. But to those who view the mkIII as an appreciating classic - and with production having ended a quarter of a century ago, this is most assuredly the case - it's something a little different. Behold, the RS Turbo bodykit, the lowered stance over seven-spoke RS alloys, the big-bore exhaust. Is this just someone's mum's shopping car that they've tarted up? Further evidence would suggest otherwise: the sturdy rollcage and RS1800 badging confirm that there's something interesting going on under the skin.

See, that's the great thing about car shows - every car has a tale to tell.
