CD-Panhard 3
This car, more than most ever built, proves the effectiveness of aerodynamics: it was powered by an 850cc flat-twin, yet could achieve 140mph.
Charles Deutsch designed and built two examples of the car with Panhard in 1964, with the aim of winning the Index of Performance at Le Mans. They featured dinky superchargers and almost unbelievably aerodynamic bodywork (with a Cd of just 0.12), but sadly neither car finished in what turned out to be Panhard's last works race.
The best thing about these wonderful little cars is that they're fully road legal, wearing tax discs and number plates. Which, if you'd heard one running, you'd agree is very silly indeed.
