This car should be familiar to fans of Gran Turismo 4; seeing it in the metal, it's gratifying to see that the rendering was accurate. It really is a handsome machine.
Based on the 1600GSR road car, which was endowed with a mighty 110bhp and the giddying novelty of a five-speed gearbox, the rally car's engine was tuned to produce 165bhp. Aside from the obligatory addition of a rollcage and some knobbly tyres, it was pretty much factory-standard. Impressive, then, that it was immediately succesful, not least in the unforgiving East African Safari Rally.
