I don't know of many people who buy a 500 iPhone outright. Most (Especially in the UK) will be on a 18-24 month contract.

And why is this on mac rumors.
Does it really matter what the competition does.
Well seeing how in 6 pages I have yet to see the logical answer to this I will give it.
It is because it shows the US carries are cracking down on tethering and going after them.
Now there is still an easy way to get said apps threw market with out sideload.
Put your phone in airplane mode. Then turn on wifi and boom full market access while in airplane mode.

Man, this thread is full of douchiness. Karma is symbolic, not literal.
Right, that's why I said People should conduct themselves according to their moral code. As in, people should be good because they want to be good - not because they are scared into being good.
Besides which, karma is most definately literal. Possibly not amongst coffeeshop-hipster-douches like yourself who like to bleat about it on the internet, but certainly amongst those who originated the concept.

3.7" is the most appropriate phone size imo. I use htc trophy 7 which is 3.8" and it's just a bit bigger. 3.5" is a bit small though.
Anything greater than 3.8" is a giant screen. Can't imagine using one of those.

I think everybody should be able to see how many positives and negatives specific posters have given. e.g. I gave a few +1s today and no -1s so somewhere on my profile or under my username it should say 3 +1s given, 0 -1s given or something like that.

Any one that proposes using diesel or gas because of the impact it "might" have on our national grid (which by the way depends on where you live, i.e. Nuclear power plants for California, renewable hydro-electric for Las Vegas, etc...) pales in comparison to incidents like... oh say... the GULF OIL SPILL!!! What did that cost so far? Tens of billions. Not to mention the amount of lives it has ruined! Wonder how many electric cars could have been made and powered over the course of a year on that bill?
Internal combustion engines should have died off over 50 years ago.

That childish prank is close to the kind of thing that Woz pulled in college, so I can appreciate the humor on one level. The problem is that this was done at a trade show and is completely unacceptable behavior for any group passing themselves off as professional journalists or industry bloggers who wish to be taken seriously.
If I were CES management, I'd ban them for life. Can't imagine Apple will let them anywhere near Moscone.

PS: if you look more closely at Apple's 3Q numbers, you'll see that desktop sales were relatively flat: the growth was in laptops.
As we should expect. Laptops are where the growth is in the PC market today, period. I'd expect Apple's desktop sales to jump in the next couple of quarters, after Adobe ships the Intel version of CS. A lot of users in the pro market are waiting for this.

Getting back to the actual advertisement. What self-respecting advertising professional would use someone else's tagline like that.
I had a few friends watching the football game (where we saw the ad) and half of them thought it was an iphone commercial because they were only half paying attention and heard "there's a map for that".
Pretty shoddy work in my opinion.
Seems like it worked. Got a lot of people talking about it, razzing on AT&T and saying good for them (Verizon). On an Apple forum no less. Mission accomplished.

yawn! the disc is dead.
(dying, at least.)
I personnally don't agree. Movies you can buy and download still have poorer resolution, only one language, no bonus. Plus it takes so much room on your hard drive! You end up having to burn them anyway on a disc, or having to buy two huge hard drives for backup/safety purpose in case your hard drive dies. I own something like 150 DVD. That's about 1 TB (2 TB if you backup) You really can't compare it to the music situation. Movies on DVD are cheaper than music CD. I get brand new DVDs through internet for an average of 7 ($8.77). For me to buy a movie on iTunes, it would have to sell for 3 or 4 ($4 or $5) to be worth it.

Used to having more? No. I am one of eight kids and my wife is one of ten.
That was directed more at True... But, thanks for the enlightenment.
Don't presume to know my "standards". We have enough space, but doing it all over I'd choose more. I work hard. I make money accordingly. What's money for if not improving the lives of my family? I don't want a big house for no purpose, I'd just like enough to give my children some personal space so they don't have to collide every day.
Good goals. And money is fine to have (and as you say, enrich your family, not just for the sake of having wealth).
Some of these posts are coming across as narrow-minded. If you backed your initial post with these facts, I'd have replied differently.

There aren't exactly good public restroom options for a transgendered person. I think when it comes to restrooms, you probably should pick the door that reflects the body parts as you have them, not how you want them. Wouldn't these same girls be widely considered justified if this was some skeevy guy in a trench coat?
It wasn't a skeevy guy, not even remotely.
Kinda tired of arguing this point, there are too many of you, making unfounded assumptions, brandishing opinions you've clearly not thought through about people you don't even know.
Urgh.
She was in the right restroom, there is a good option, for her to use the loo appropriate to her gender, female.

the current 17" C2D iMac is 6.8 inches thick
The Apple site quotes that as the 'depth' of the iMac (presumably the space needed to situate it on a desk, including the depth of the stand. I seem to remember the actual iMac 'screen' itself being around 2 inches thick when they introduced the G5 version. Have a look at the C2D iMac in a shop - it's certainly not 6.8" thick.
Back OT - there's really no reason why Apple would look at AMD now. They have a good relationship with Intel, are getting the supply of chips that they need, and they've very much fallen into bed with the company for the lower-end machines (integrated graphics etc). At present they're doing well with one supplier where they had mixed success with dealing with two in the past (IBM and Freescale).

I remember playing around with OS X 10.3 on an iMac G4 at CompUSA. I also remember waiting for the launch of 10.4 and then the iMac G5 to make my purchase. I'm still happy with 10.4, although it is a drag that most new web browsers etc, require 10.5 and Intel. Maybe, I'll upgrade when Lion comes out.

i've been pessimistic about the mbp update for a while now considering how long it would take for santa rosa if they released a new one now.

Firing incompetent teachers sounds like a great idea, but it doesn't require unions to be disbanded to achieve. The British teachers unions aren't that strong, and still we have huge problems getting rid of poor teachers.
Jail time for strikers is bizarre and totally unacceptable.
Additionally there is no way you can claim that it is a "individual liberty" position to hold to be for jailing strikers.

Are you truly anti-gun or have you just not been exposed to them so that you understand how fun it is ...
I'm certainly not worried about the people shooting at clay pigeons or paper cups.
I'm concerned about the large number of deaths and injuries caused each year by firearms.
31,224 deaths [2007 WISQARS (http://webappa.cdc.gov/sasweb/ncipc/mortrate10_sy.html)]
66,769 non-fatal injuries [2009 WISQARS (http://webappa.cdc.gov/sasweb/ncipc/nfirates2001.html)]
